Mentoring reflects the great strength of America; the heart and soul of the American people. During National Mentoring Month, we recognize the dedicated individuals who volunteer their time serving and giving back to our community as mentors.
Mentors are friends, teachers, and role models. They open doors of opportunity, convey values and help to provide the stability and encouragement that people need to succeed. By spending time and showing compassion and guidance, a mentor can profoundly affect a life. Mentoring not only provides a positive influence for individuals, but also strengthens families and communities.
Monroe County, City of Rochester, and the Rochester City School District are working to expand mentoring and other volunteer activities across the Greater Rochester Area. Every life has value and potential. By supporting the individuals and organizations involved in mentoring, and by encouraging more citizens to participate, we can make a difference by helping people in need.
Rochester Mentors is a collaboration of twenty-five local organizations that have, for decades, provided mentoring services for various segments of the Rochester Community. Each organization holds the experience and expertise to help mentors change lives. Together, these organizations are a great treasure and provide promise for a better future in both Monroe County and the City of Rochester.
Therefore, We, Maggie Brooks, Monroe County Executive and Robert J. Duffy, Mayor, City of Rochester, do hereby proclaim the month of January 2007 to be:
NATIONAL MENTORING MONTH
in Monroe County and the City of Rochester, and call upon all citizens to regocnize the importance of mentoring and being a role model as we celebrate "National Thank Your Mentor Day."
WE HAVE HEREUNTO, set our hands this twenty fifth day of January in the year two thousand and seven.
