Spread the Word on Know How U... Post this Flyer TODAY (flyer.pdf)

Know How Presenters are the heart of this learning community.

Serious, Sensible or Silly... you have know how to share.

See our complete 2012 Schedule for examples of current topics and dates we need you!

Contact us today to talk about your idea. It's a good one! (jeffnewland@rochestermentors.org 585-271-4050)

TIPS to help you put on a great presentation:

  1. Find the Harro East Ballroom via Liberty Pole Way in the city. Visit our Map page. (opens a new window)
  2. Plan an interactive hour that is hands on (or minds-on), and where people work in pairs (or individually) on something that they will take home (or carry into their relationship, as might be the case with a mentor and mentee).
    • An hour goes much faster than you think, so make sure you can get to your 'conclusion' in far less than an hour, then let conversations fill in the rest.
    • We're here to help you brainstorm, tweak and refine your presentation. Contact Jeff Newland for help (jeffnewland@rochestermentors.org 585-271-4050)
  3. Know How U is about connections between people. So, taking time on introductions and reflecting back on what people said about themselves as new introductions are made is powerful. It's ok for introductions (getting to know each other) takes 10 minutes or more.

  4. Learning is Two-Way, Three-Way, etc , so look for opportunities to have know how flow from your attendees to you or each other. We want youth and adults to experience the know how in each of us. Our dream is that people who come a few times as attendees become presenters of their own Know How in time.
  5. Costs for Materials... That is part of your contribution to this great endeavor. We're happy to help you raise or procure the support you need with a letter of confirmation, etc.

Safety. Each young person who attends is with an adult in his or her life. That person is their custodian for the evening. NEVER place yourself in a custodial situation or alone with any of the kids. Likewise, never share your contact information with a child, but instead provide it to the adult who is with them if you see a reason to do so.

Support: Jeff Newland is always available to answer questions you may have. jeffnewland@rochestermentors.org, 585-271-4050.
