ABOUT US

WHO WE ARE

Rochester Mentors - a partnership of mentoring programs in Rochester, New York founded in 2006 - is leading the movement to connect Rochester's young people with caring adult mentors. We find mentors for more youth, develop more champions for mentoring, and help mentoring programs in our community thrive according to proven standards for safety and effectiveness.

revolving centerWHAT WE DO:

We help people find their compelling connection to youth mentoring - either as a mentor, or someone who advances the cause with their own passions, skills and abilities.

We offer:

  • Information Sessions for new would-be mentors

  • Flexible and rewarding volunteer opportunities to suit each individual

  • Training for beginners and masters alike

  • Professional connections, Networking opportunities and skills utilization

  • Events that raise public awareness

OUR VISION:

By infusing the movement with people who are excited about the potential for youth, mentoring will grow to become a premier volunteer option among caring adults. Motivated individuals will swell the ranks of Rochester Mentors and our partner programs -- reaching enough youth to change our community, one child at a time.

Research shows that volunteers of the “baby boomer” generation are looking for ways to make a real and positive difference with their time.  Mentoring offers tremendous rewards to the volunteer, as well as to the youth they befriend.

In 2009, Rochester Mentors became a partner in the Boomer Mentors Initiative, a project of Lifespan, with leadership and funding from Rochester Area Community Foundation. Through 2012, the Boomer Mentor project will be reaching out to hundreds of older adults (ages 50+) to recruit them as mentors -- and create a sustainable system for high quality mentoring through Rochester Mentor's growing number of program providing members.
